An unusual pairing for a professional golf tournament took place on Tuesday at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee ahead of the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the first round of the PGA Tour Playoffs. A professional golfer, an NBA rookie, and Memphis-area youth, all got together Tuesday for a short competition.

Tommy Fleetwood joined Cam Boozer, a rookie for the Memphis Grizzlies, and local Memphis-area youth from the First Tee organization for a series of golf challenges revolving around precision, accuracy, and consistency. The youth from First Tee all hit different golf shots to specific yardages under the pressure of competition against Fleetwood and Boozer. The event, hosted by ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, brought together both Fleetwood and Boozer as professional athletes for youth from the First Tee to ask questions of and learn from, tying together professional golf, Memphis sports, and youth development.

Fleetwood and Boozer spent the event coaching the young golfers throughout the challenges, giving them an opportunity to learn from athletes competing at the highest levels of their respective sports. Fleetwood, who is among the PGA Tour’s top 10 players in 2026 and Boozer, who represents the next generation of Memphis sports and basketball talent, were able to give back to different parts of Memphis’s sports community while giving the First Tee youth a chance to compete against and learn from elite professional athletes.

First Tee is a youth development organization that strives to building strength of character in kids using the game of golf. Their aim is to build life and leadership skills to empower them in different areas of their lives, including through school, friendships, and careers. As the event concluded, FedEx announced a donation of $1 Million to support youth golf and the next generation of players in Memphis.

The match comes as Fleetwood prepares for the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the first round of the PGA Tour Playoffs, with the top 70 players in the FedEx Cup Standings qualifying for the tournament. 69 of the top 70 players have committed to the event. Daniel Berger, who was in the top 70 players and had qualified for the tournament, withdrew from the tournament due to an unspecified injury.

Fleetwood is the reigning 2025 FedEx cup champion and returns to TPC Southwind to defend his title. He currently ranks number 9 in the FedEx cup standings. The first round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship is set to begin at 8:10 AM ET on Thursday, August 13.
