Speeding driver tells cops he was doing 110mph in a 60mph zone to catch ‘cheating girlfriend’

A speeding driver told officers that he was driving 110mph in a 60mph zone as he was on his way to his “cheating girlfriend's house”.

Bodcyam footage released by DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office in Florida shows the deputy stopping driver Gavin Ames and informing him that he was under arrest for speeding.

Sat in the back of the police vehicle, he said to himself: “I’m just in shock right now.”

“I’m in the back of a cop car listening to Boss Man D-Lo at one o’clock in the morning to catch my cheating girlfriend. Now, I’m going to get bailed out by her.”

Florida’s ‘super-speeder’ law makes it an arrestable offense to drive more than 50mph over the limit.

It’s unclear if Ames’ claims are true.
