Serial predator Simon Levy today joined a list of Britain's most dangerous prisoners sentenced to rot behind bars.

The double killer murdered two women and raped a third, brutally exploiting the victims for his own sexual gratification.

He was handed a life term after a judge detailed the horrific nature of his crimes – a penalty reserved for only the most serious offences.

Levy now joins the likes of Rose West, Lee Rigby's killer Michael Adebolajo, and Mark Bridger, who murdered April Jones in 2012, after receiving a whole-life term for his abhorrent crimes.

In December the Government announced it was broadening the range of whole life orders in the wake of the murder of prison officer Lenny Scott in 2024.

Sentences would be extended to revenge killings against police and prison officers, then-Justice Secretary David Lammy said.

Here is a run-down of some of Britain's most notorious killers - whose horrific crimes made them eligible for such a punishment.

Rose West

Aged 72, Rose West is currently an inmate at New Hall Prison in Flockton, West Yorkshire. She was sentenced to ten life terms

One of the few female criminals on the list, Rose West was sentenced to ten life terms and a whole life order for the torture and murder of at least ten young women between 1973 and 1983.

Working with her husband, Fred West, the English serial killer also murdered her eight-year-old stepdaughter, Charmaine, in 1971.

Now aged 72, she is currently an inmate at New Hall Prison in Flockton, West Yorkshire.

Her husband died by suicide while awaiting trial in 1995.

Michael Adebolajo

Michael Adebolajo murdered British Army soldier Fusilier Lee Rigby in a crime that shocked the nation - attempting to behead him on a street in southeast London

Michael Adebolajo was one of two Islamist terrorists responsible for the murder of British Army soldier, Fusilier Lee Rigby in 2013 in Woolwich, south-east London.

Collaborating with Michael Adebowale, Adebolajo ran Rigby down with a car then used knives and a cleaver to stab and hack him to death – attempting to behead him.

The killers, of Nigerian descent, claimed they had murdered Rigby to avenge Muslims killed by the British military.

Adebolajo was given a whole life order while Adebowale was ordered to serve at least 45 years.

Jamie Varley

Jamie Varley – who was described by one police officer as an 'arrogant, self-centred liar' – had routinely assaulted Preston for his own 'amusement and gratification'

Jamie Varley, one half of one of Britain's most depraved couples, adopted 13-month-old Preston Davey with his partner John McGowan-Fazakerley in March 2023.

But within five months, the baby boy was dead – as the pair subjected him to a sickening campaign of sexual abuse.

Varley – who was described by one police officer as an 'arrogant, self-centred liar' – had routinely assaulted Preston for his own 'amusement and gratification'.

Following a seven-week trial, Varley was found guilty of murder, assault by penetration, sexual assault, causing grievous bodily harm and cruelty.

He will now spend the rest of his life in prison.

Levi Bellfield

Levi Bellfield, of Romani descent, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a whole life order

Serial killer Levi Bellfield was found guilty in 2008 of the murders of Marsha McDonnell in 2003 and Amélie Delagrange in 2004 and the attempted murder of Kate Sheedy in 2004.

In 2011, he was further found guilty of the murder of Milly Dowler in 2002 – whose remains were discovered in a wooded area of Hampshire.

Bellfield, of Romani descent, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a whole life order.

He is being held in HMP Frankland, nicknamed Monster Mansion.

Last year the Daily Mail revealed he is able to play Xbox games in prison and enjoy a fry-up every Saturday.

Wayne Couzens

Wayne Couzens drove Sarah Everard to Kent where he raped and strangled her before burning her body and disposing of her remains in a pond in woodland

Wayne Couzens was serving as an off-duty Metropolitan Police constable when he kidnapped and murdered 33-year-old Sarah Everard in south London in March 2021.

He drove Ms Everard to Kent where he raped and strangled her before burning her body and disposing of her remains in a pond in woodland.

The murder gave rise to significant debate about women's safety in the UK.

Couzens pleaded guilty to the young woman's murder and was sentenced to life imprisonment with a whole life order.

Ali Harbi Ali

Ali Harbi Ali fatally stabbed Sir David Amess at a constituency surgery at Belfairs Methodist Church Hall in Leigh-on-Sea in Essex and was arrested at the scene

Ali Harbi Ali, an Islamic State sympathiser, was given a whole life sentence for the murder of Conservative MP Sir David Amess in October 2021.

He fatally stabbed the long-serving politician at a constituency surgery at Belfairs Methodist Church Hall in Leigh-on-Sea in Essex and was arrested at the scene.

Ali cited Sir David's voting record on UK airstrikes in Syria as well as his membership with the Conservatives Friends of Israel as motives for the murder.

In April 2022, he was convicted of murder and preparation of terrorist acts and sentenced to life imprisonment with a whole life order.

David Fuller

David Fuller was already serving a whole life sentence when police uncovered his systematic sexual abuse in hospital mortuaries

Necrophiliac morgue 'monster' David Fuller abused the bodies of more than 100 women and girls in Pembury between 2005 and 2020.

Fuller was already serving a whole life sentence for the sexually motivated murders of Wendy Knell, 25, and Caroline Pierce, 20, in two separate attacks in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, in 1987, when police uncovered his systematic sexual abuse in hospital mortuaries.

The Government launched an independent inquiry in 2021 to investigate how Fuller was able to carry out his crimes undetected, with the first phase of the probe looking at his employer, Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.

The inquiry concluded it was 'entirely possible' Fuller's abhorrent crimes could be repeated by another offender elsewhere.

Stephen Port

Stephen Port used a date rape drug, adding it to drinks given to his victims, to rape them and murder four of them in his flat in Barking

Another serial killer and rapist serving a whole life order is Stephen Port.

He was convicted of the murders of four young men and multiple rapes and sexual assaults of others.

Both in Southend-on-Sea, Port was described as being a 'loner' and often bullied at school during his childhood.

He came out as gay in his mid-20s and met his victims via online gay and bisexual networks.

Port used a date rape drug, adding it to drinks given to his victims, to rape them and murder four of them in his flat in Barking.

Mark Fellows

British hitman Mark Fellows was convicted of the murders of John Kinsella and Paul Massey

Nicknamed 'The Iceman', British hit man Mark Fellows was convicted of the murders of John Kinsella and Paul Massey.

Both men were shot dead amid a violent gang war, with Fellows acting as a professional contract killer.

Fellows was sentenced to a whole-life order for the offences.

In 2025, Fellows was further charged, along with two other prisoners, following the death of convicted murderer Kyle Bevan after an incident at HM Prison Wakefield.

Shaine March

After murdering Ms Odysseos, Shaine March was sentenced to life with a minimum term of 42 years

Double murderer Shaine March stabbed his pregnant girlfriend Alana Odysseos 19 times with a kitchen knife outside her flat in Walthamstow, east London, in July 2024.

He had previously been convicted of murder for the January 2000 fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Andre Drumond.

March received a life sentence and was released on a life licence in 2013.

After murdering Ms Odysseos, he was sentenced to life with a minimum term of 42 years.

Mark Bridger

Mark Bridger murdered five-year-old April Jones after abducting her as she played outside with a friend

Mark Bridger murdered five-year-old April Jones in October 2012 after abducting her near her home in Machynlleth, Powys, in Wales.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment with a whole life order in May 2013.

April had attended swimming lessons at a local leisure centre before inviting a school friend to come to her house.

They played outside but her mother was forced to dial 999 after she was unable to find her.

Bridger was described by a judge as a 'pathological and glib liar' and 'a paedophile' in sentencing remarks.

Kyle Clifford

Kyle Clifford killed his victims in their home in Bushey, Hertfordshire, after his former girlfriend Louise Hunt broke up with him due to his views and behaviour

Crossbow killer Kyle Clifford was sentenced for triple murders – of his ex-girlfriend, her sister and her mother.

Soaked in 'self pity', Clifford, who was described as holding women 'in utter contempt', was given a whole life sentence in March last year for the murders.

He killed his victims in their home in Bushey, Hertfordshire, after his former girlfriend Louise Hunt broke up with him due to his views and behaviour.

In February 2024, the Home Office reviewed evidence to see if there was a need to restrict the ownership of crossbows.

Then Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer described the killings as 'awful'.

Joanna Dennehy

Joanna Dennehy specifically targeted men during her killing spree, claiming she did not with to kill a woman

Joanna Dennehy killed three male victims in what came to be known as the Peterborough ditch murders in Cambridgeshire in March 2013.

Her victims were Polish national Lukasz Slaboszewski, Kevin Lee and John Chapman.

She also stabbed and attempted to kill two random dog-walkers, John Rogers and Robin Bereza, in Hereford – but they survived.

Dennehy specifically targeted men during her killing spree, claiming she did not wish to kill a woman – especially a woman with children.

David Taylor

David Taylor killed Alisha Apostoloff-Boyarin in 2022 and murdered Kyle Bevan in HMP Wakefield in November 2025 alongside two other inmates

Violent criminal David Taylor was sentenced to a Whole Life Order following the murders and the attempted murder of a detective.

He killed Alisha Apostoloff-Boyarin in 2022 and murdered Kyle Bevan in HMP Wakefield in November 2025 alongside two other inmates.

Ms Apostoloff-Boyarin was reported missing by her grandmother after not being seen or heard from for two weeks.

She was attacked by Taylor and then murdered in early 2022 after travelling with him to a campsite in Durham.

Khairi Saadalla

Khairi Saadalla was born in Libya to an affluent middle class family and granted asylum in the UK in 2012

Reading terror attacker Khairi Saadallah attacked members of the public in June 2020, later pleading guilty to three counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder.

Born in Libya to an affluent middle-class family, he was granted asylum in the UK in 2018.

The cannabis smoker was convicted six times for 15 crimes between 2015 and 2019, of which eight were violent crimes, two involved possession of a knife and two involved racially or religiously aggravated harassment.

Saadallah shouted 'Allahu Akbar' during the attack while a Muslim bystander heard him say 'God accept my jihad' in Arabic.

Louis De Zoysa

Louis De Zoysa had previously been referred to the Prevent programme before his arrest

Louis De Zoysa shot dead a New Zealand-born police sergeant in September 2020 while handcuffed in police custody.

Officers carrying out a stop and search somehow missed the gun in the holster under his arm which he later used to kill Sergeant Matiu Ratana at the Croydon Custody Centre.

De Zoysa was sentenced to life imprisonment with a whole life order after a court rejected his appeal against his conviction and whole-life term.

Sharaz Ali

Sharaz Ali was handed a whole life order for killing Bryonie Gawith and her children Destiny, nine, Oscar, five, and 22-month-old Aubree Birtle by setting fire to their house in Bradford in August 2024.

Drink and drug-fuelled thug Sharaz Ali had planned to 'wipe out a whole family' when he murdered his ex-girlfriend's sister and her three children.

He was handed a whole life order for killing Bryonie Gawith and her children Destiny, nine, Oscar, five, and 22-month-old Aubree Birtle by setting fire to their house in Bradford in August 2024.

The blaze was a revenge attack on Bryonie's sister, Antonia Gawith, who had been staying with the family after she ended her seven-year relationship with Ali.

Antonia managed to escape the fire, but Bryonie, 29, sacrificed herself in a brave attempt to save her children who were trapped upstairs.

Damien Bendall

Following his arrest, Damien Bendall was charged with four counts of murder and later rape of a girl under 13

Damien Bendall murdered his partner Terri Harris and her two children, Lacey and John-Paul Bennett, as well as Lacey's friend Connie Gent.

The horrific attacks took place at a residential property in Killamarsh in September 2021.

Thomas Mair

Thomas Mair fired his gun at Mrs Cox as she emerged from her car, shouting 'Britain first, this is for Britain'

Extremist 'loner' Thomas Mair murdered Labour MP Jo Cox in a politically motivated attack in 2016.

He carried out the killing after asking a member of staff about Mrs Cox's constituency surgeries at the library, at which point he was told there was no need to make an appointment and was pointed towards a poster displaying the details.

He fired his gun at Mrs Cox as she emerged from her car, shouting 'Britain first, this is for Britain.'

Mair then attacked the MP with a knife before shooting at her again. Mrs Cox died in hospital.

Lee Newell

Lee Newell was convicted of three murders: his female neighbour in 1989, a fellow inmate in 2013 and another inmate in 2026

Lucy Letby

Lucy Letby, a former neonatal nurse at the Countess of Chester Hospital, was convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others between June 2015 and June 2016.

She is serving 15 whole-life prison terms – making her one of the most prolific child serial killers in modern British history.

Letby was convicted of injecting air into the bloodstreams of infants and poisoning babies with synthetic insulin.

While legally convicted, her sentence remains contentious as some medical experts and journalists have questioned the evidence used in her trial.

Simon Levy

Following his conviction at the Old Bailey last week, it emerged that Simon Levy had been preying on women for years

Completing the list is Simon Levy – a predatory Tube attacker who murdered 53-year-old Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo and 39-year-old Sheryl Wilkins, and raped and near-fatally suffocated a third woman.

Following his conviction at The Old Bailey last week, it emerged that Levy had been preying on women for years, with many of his offences occurring while he was on bail.

Today Sheryl's sister Lindsey Hicks wept as she told the court that Levy had 'destroyed our lives', telling him: 'I hope you rot in prison for the rest of your life.'

Like more than 70 other notorious criminals in the UK, Levy was handed a whole-life order for his sickening crimes.
