The police have arrested a man in connection with a house break-in case in the coastal hamlet of Nallavadu in Puducherry.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Law and Order, R. Kalaivanan identified the accused as Anbarasan. He was accused of stealing gold ornaments and ₹1.5 lakhs in cash from a house at Nallavadu when the occupants were away. The accused had broken into the house of Vijendran when he had gone for a temple festival with his family on Monday evening.
Based on the inputs gathered, the police arrested Anbarasan, a local resident. The accused had previously surveyed the house when he visited the place under the guise of selling prawns. During investigation, it was revealed that the accused was involved in another theft case in the same locality.
The police have recovered around 30 sovereigns of gold jewellery, valued at ₹30 lakhs along with ₹ 1 lakh in cash. A search was on to locate a woman who assisted the accused in selling the stolen articles at a shop in Cuddalore, police said.
