A 24-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her husband, an autorickshaw driver, who slit her throat while they were inside his auto. He dumped her body on the roadside near Ambattur and fled. The police arrested him around midnight while he was consuming alcohol on a street.
The police said the victim has been identified as Vaidehi and the accused as her husband Chinna, 32. The couple had three children and the family stayed at Indira Nagar, Menambedu.
The police said the deceased woman had been in contact with another man through Instagram, which had led to frequent quarrels between her and her husband. On August 2, she took her children and went to her mother’s house in Thirumullaivoyal.
Over the past two days, she had been visiting Indira Nagar in Menambedu, Ambattur, to meet her husband. On Tuesday, at around 7 p.m., her husband, Chinna, called Vaidehi on her mobile phone and asked her to come home.
After she arrived, the couple spoke for some time and at around 9 p.m., Chinna asked Vaidehi to drive their auto while he sat in the rear. While they were travelling, he allegedly asked her to stop communicating with her male friend. When she refused, Chinna allegedly took out a knife he had concealed and slit Vaidehi’s throat.
Vaidehi stopped the auto and got down, struggling for her life. Chinna allegedly abandoned her and fled in the auto. He later left the vehicle near the Pillaiyar temple at Mel Ayanambakkam and escaped.
The police examined mobile phone signals and traced Chinna to Kamarajapuram JJ Street. He was arrested and interrogated.
