Exes Julia Barretto, Joshua Garcia tackle sacrifices in ‘Always Yours, Never Mine’

Julia Barretto and Joshua Garcia have reunited for the big screen anew, starring in the upcoming Cathy Garcia-Sampana-helmed romance-drama movie “Always Yours, Never Mine.”

The former reel and real life partners’ new movie project was announced by Star Cinema on its social media pages on Wednesday, Aug. 12, sharing a clip featuring the actors’ screen test.

In the video, Barretto and Garcia, whose teamup is dubbed as JoshLia, are seen in a confrontation scene where the latter confesses his love to the former who is romantically involved with another man.

“Bakit ba pinagpipilitan mo ang sarili mo sa kanya?” Garcia asks, to which the actress answers, “Kasi mahal ko siya. I wouldn’t be doing this kung hindi ko siya mahal.”

“When you love someone, you compromise, you sacrifice, you commit kahit na masakit na; kahit na ang liit-liit na ng tingin mo sa sarili mo; kahit mukha ka nang tanga,” she continues. “Why am I even defending myself to you? Hindi mo naman ako naiintindihan e. Hanggang hindi ka nagmamahal, hindi mo maiintindihan.”

In response, Garcia, in tears, says, “Naiintindihan ko dahil mahal kita, kahit masakit, kahit ang liit na ng tingin ko sa sarili ko, kahit mukha akong tanga.”

Before the clip concludes, Barretto tells him, “‘Wag ako ang mahalin mo—iba.”

The film, which marks the pair’s reunion film after their 2024 movie “Un/Happy for You,” is set to premiere in local cinemas on Sept. 30. Further details on the film including other cast members have yet to be announced as of this writing. /edv
