Thousands turned out across Yorkshire on Wednesday evening to catch a glimpse of the most significant solar eclipse since the turn of the millenium.

Those watching the astronomical phenomenon were treated to a partial eclipse, which peaked shortly after 19:00 BST, when many saw more than 90% of the sun covered by the moon.

An eclipse happens when the sun, moon and earth are in alignment. The moon casts a shadow on the earth as it passes between the two, completely or partially blocking out the sun.
