A female nurse was found dead inside the washroom of N.R.S. Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on late Wednesday (August 12, 2026), officials said.

The Kolkata Police has ordered a probe into the incident.

The 30-year-old nurse was on night shift at the hospital and had joined work on Wednesday (August 12, 2026) at around 8 p.m. Around two hours later, her colleagues could not locate her. Later they found her lying unconscious on the bathroom floor inside the hospital, the Kolkata Police officials said on Thursday (August 13, 2026).

She was declared dead after being shifted for medical treatment, according to the officials. “She was immediately shifted for medical treatment, where the attending doctor examined her and declared her dead. Upon thorough checking of the scene, no visible marks of injury and no suicidal note were found,” they added.

A post-mortem is being conducted to find out the real cause of death. Police are yet to determine if this was a case of death by suicide or there was any foul play involved.

Notably, two years ago on August 9, the discovery of a 31-year-old female doctor’s body at the R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital had taken the State by storm, raising several questions on the safety of medical staff inside hospitals, and safety of women at their workplace.
