The Assamese feature film Rador Pakhi (morning sunshine) has received a special jury award at an international festival for women-made films in Moscow.

Director Bobby Sarma Baruah and co-producer Sulakhyana Baruah received the Super Mama Award at the festival held in the Russian capital from July 8 to 12.

The producers said on Tuesday (July 21, 2026) that the recognition marked an important milestone in the film’s journey across national and international film festivals.

Before featuring in the competition section of the International Film Festival—Made by Women in Moscow, Rador Pakhiwas selected for the NFDC (National Film Development Corporation) Film Bazaar Co-Production Market and later premiered in the Indian Panorama section of the 55th International Film Festival of India in Goa in 2024.

It was subsequently selected for the Asian Spectrum section of the 21st Third Eye Asian Film Festival in Mumbai, the 23rd Pune International Film Festival, and the Indian Competition section of the 16th Bengaluru International Film Festival in 2025.

In 2025, the film was also selected for the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, the 20th International Film Festival of Thrissur, and the Mosaic International Film Festival in Canada.

The director said the film was inspired by the real-life journey of writer Sarmistha Pritam, who is based in central Assam. The film revolves around Jyoti, an aspiring writer from Assam who is diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy at a young age. Despite facing severe physical challenges, her determination to live independently and pursue her dreams forms the emotional core of the film.

“Receiving the recognition (Super Mama Award) on an international platform is truly an honour and a proud moment for our entire team,” Ms. Sarma Baruah said.

Ms. Sarma Baruah produced Rador Pakhialong with Sulakhyana and Basanta Kumar Baruah. Sulakhyana also plays a key role alongside Kamal Lochan, Arun Nath, and Bina Patangia.
