Tesco’s Clubcard has become a familiar part of supermarket shopping, with millions of households using it to access member-only prices and collect rewards. But if you’re only using your card to get a few pounds off your weekly shop, you could be missing out on some of its other perks.

Clubcard members earn points as they spend, which are then turned into vouchers that can be used on future Tesco purchases or with a range of partner brands. The value of those vouchers can vary depending on how you choose to use them, while there are also ways to boost your points balance without simply spending more money.

There’s another reason to check your Clubcard account, too. If you’ve accumulated points or vouchers and forgotten about them, you could be leaving money on the table, particularly if they’re approaching their expiry date.

From getting more value from your rewards to making sure nothing goes unused, these are the Clubcard tips worth knowing.

How to find out how many Clubcard points you have

To find out how many Clubcard points you have, simply sign in to your account online or on the Tesco app. Your balance will also be shown at the bottom of your most recent Tesco receipt, provided you scanned your Clubcard at the checkout.

You can turn your points into vouchers once you have at least 150 points (worth £1.50), either through the Tesco app or online. These vouchers can be used in-store at Tesco but you can also double their value by spending them with Tesco’s reward partners.

It’s also worth checking your account for any vouchers you’ve forgotten about. According to MoneySavingExpert, more than £11m worth of Clubcard vouchers are reportedly due to expire on 31 August. Clubcard vouchers are usually valid for two years from the date they’re issued, so any that are approaching their expiry date need to be used by the deadline.

Where to spend your Tesco Clubcard vouchers

Save on Disney+

You can use Clubcard vouchers towards a Disney+ subscription, whether you're a new or existing subscriber. £9 in vouchers (900 points) gets you three months of the standard with ads plan, while £15 (1,500 points) gets you three months of standard without ads.

To redeem, choose your preferred Disney+ option through Tesco’s reward partner, exchange your vouchers and look out for a confirmation email containing your redemption code.

New subscribers can follow the link in the email to activate their subscription. Existing subscribers need to cancel their current subscription and reactivate it using the instructions provided by Tesco. You can continue using your existing subscription until it expires.

Triple your points with certain restaurants

Clubcard vouchers are usually worth up to twice their face value with Tesco’s reward oartners, but selected restaurants are currently offering triple the value. These include PizzaExpress, Las Iguanas, Bella Italia and more.

To use them, sign in to Tesco, choose your restaurant and enter the amount of vouchers you want to exchange. Tesco will email you a code to use when paying.

Check the individual restaurant’s terms before you go, as restrictions can apply to when and how Clubcard vouchers can be used.

Before you book, it’s worth checking if you can get a better restaurant deal elsewhere and save your Clubcard points for something else. There are tons of restaurants offering kids eat free offers during the summer holidays, including all of the restaurants listed above, which could potentially be more worthwhile than using your Clubcard voucher.

In most cases, you won’t be able to claim an offer and use your Clubcard points, so it’s worth weighing up which will help you save more.

Days out

There are tons of days out available via Tesco’s reward partners, from Chessington World of Adventures to Cineworld. By spending your points this way, you’ll be able to double their value compared with what you would get if you spent them on groceries.

For example, £5 in Clubcard vouchers can be worth up to £10 when exchanged with Tesco’s reward partners, including attractions such as Legoland, so it’s worth checking what you have to spend if you’re planning a family day out.

Choose the day out you want through Tesco’s reward partners, exchange your Clubcard vouchers for a reward partner code, and Tesco will send it to the email address linked to your Clubcard account. You can then use the code with your chosen partner, subject to its individual terms and conditions.

Hotels

Planning a holiday? You can use your Tesco Clubcard vouchers towards hotel stays with reward partners including Hotels.com, Mercure and Best Western, with vouchers worth up to twice their face value with some partners.

But remember, before exchanging your vouchers, make sure you shop around. Once converted, they can only be used with your chosen reward partner, and you may find a better price elsewhere.

Railcards

If you regularly travel by train, a railcard can be a useful way to cut the cost of your journeys, offering one-third off most fares. You can also put your Clubcard vouchers towards the cost, potentially making the saving even bigger.

For every £2.50 in Clubcard vouchers (250 points), you can get £5 to spend on selected Railcards, including the 16-25, Senior, Disabled Persons, Family & Friends and Two Together Railcards.

To redeem your vouchers, find your chosen Railcard on Tesco’s reward partners page and exchange your vouchers for a Railcard code. Swap Clubcard points for Virgin Atlantic points

If you fly with Virgin Atlantic, it could be worth converting your Tesco Clubcard vouchers into Virgin Atlantic Flying Club loyalty scheme points. You can exchange £1.50 worth of vouchers for 300 Virgin Points.

Donate to charity

You can also put your Clubcard vouchers towards a charitable donation, although they’re redeemed at their face value rather than increased in value.

Tesco supports a range of charities, including FareShare, the Trussell Trust, British Heart Foundation, WWF and Cancer Research UK. To donate, choose your preferred charity through Tesco’s Clubcard charity page and follow the steps to make your donation online.

Magazine subscriptions

You can save on the cost of a magazine subscription by using your Tesco Clubcard vouchers at double their value. Exchange your vouchers for money to spend towards Hearst magazine subscriptions and you’ll be able to redeem your discount when you subscribe to the likes of Good Housekeeping, HouseBeautiful, and Country Living.

The Bauer Media Group is also partnered with Tesco, meaning that you can use your Clubcard points towards the cost of a subscription to Empire, Grazia, Country Walking and more.

Extend the life of Clubcard vouchers

Clubcard vouchers are usually valid for two years from the date they’re issued. If yours are approaching their expiry date and you’re not ready to spend them, there’s a way to potentially extend their validity.

The trick involves making a small purchase through one of Tesco’s reward partners, such as a charity donation. The amount you don’t spend is then returned to your Clubcard account as points. For example, if you use 50p from a £3 voucher, the remaining £2.50 would be credited back as 250 points.

You can then convert those points into new vouchers, which will have a fresh expiry date two years from the date they’re issued.

However, is a caveat: Tesco’s terms and conditions allow it to refuse a reward partner order if it believes the service is being used to extend the validity of vouchers. So, while the method has been reported to work, it isn’t something Tesco officially guarantees.

Get points for filling in surveys

You can collect additional Clubcard points by completing surveys through Shopper Thoughts. Each survey awards between 25 and 150 points, depending on its length. Once you’ve collected 500 points, you can redeem them for £5 in Clubcard vouchers, which could be worth up to £15 when used with selected Tesco reward partners.

To get started, complete your first survey, then link your Tesco account by heading to your profile and linked accounts on Shopper Thoughts. Once linked, you’ll be able to start earning Clubcard points from eligible surveys.

Earn points when sending parcels

If you regularly send parcels, you can earn Clubcard points on eligible postage bought directly through Evri’s website. Simply use Tesco’s ‘Send a parcel’ button to head to Evri.com, follow the usual booking process and enter your Clubcard number when you reach the basket. Tesco says you’ll collect one Clubcard point for every £1 spent.

The points will be added to the Clubcard account linked to the number you entered, usually within 14 days of placing your order. Just make sure you enter your Clubcard number correctly, as Tesco says points can’t be moved to another account if you enter the wrong number.

Charge your car and collect points

If you drive an electric car, you can earn Clubcard points while charging at Tesco. Just download the Pod Point app, find a Pod Point charger at a Tesco store and link your Tesco Clubcard. You’ll then collect one Clubcard point for every £1 spent on charging at eligible Pod Point chargers at Tesco stores.

The points should be added to your Clubcard account within seven days of your billed charging session, according to Tesco. So, if you're already stopping at Tesco and charging your car while you shop, you may as well pick up a few extra points at the same time.
