Dwyer hopes Electric Impulse proves a winning move to Sydney

Ballarat trainer Henry Dwyer hopes to make up for a lost opportunity in Sydney last week when he sends two runners to Randwick on Saturday.

Dwyer has Nishino Crescent ($23) and Electric Impulse ($5.50) set to run in races six and eight respectively, after scratching the third of his entries, Salsa Fellow, to compete instead at Caulfield.

The pair will be his second and third runners in NSW city races this season. His other was Wuddzz, which won on a heavy 10 track at Randwick in August.

Dwyer was eyeing another wet-track Sydney run for Wuddzz last week at Rosehill but opted to keep him at home when the forecast looked unsuitable. Rosehill then copped showers and was a heavy 9.

“We should have run him,” Dwyer said.

“It was a soft track on Thursday, and you’ve got to get them on a truck that night. Then they got 30mm or something. Anyway, there’s a 2400m race in a couple of weeks up there for him.

“When we were in Melbourne, we had more runners up there, but from Ballarat, it’s a fair old trip. But if the races are there, it’s worth going. The prizemoney is obviously good.”

Randwick was a soft 7 on Thursday and should improve with a clear forecast.

Electric Impulse shapes as Dwyer’s best chance after she was just over a length away last start when fourth in the listed Winter Championship (1600m) at Flemington. The six-year-old mare tackles the mile again in the benchmark 88 handicap, where Nash Rawiller rides from gate one.

“She’s had three good runs this prep,” Dwyer said.

“She hasn’t quite got there yet, but she’s probably got two more runs before she goes to stud.

“There wasn’t anything really suitable in Melbourne, so we thought we’d take her up there and it looks a nice race for her.

“Her best form is pretty good on ratings, she’d been a good chance I’d say, and hopefully barrier one is no spoil. She wants to be midfield and coming wider.”

He said Electric Impulse would likely race again at Randwick in two weeks in the Premier’s Cup Prelude (1800m).

Seven-year-old Nishino Crescent, third up off 16 months out with a suspensory ligament injury, is in the benchmark 78 handicap (1800m). He was fourth last start at a midweek synthetic track race.

“He’s looking for drier tracks, and it looks like it’s going to dry out a bit up there,” he said.

“His last run was pretty good and he was unlucky. I’d say he should almost have probably won, so he’s on the up for the preparation. He’s probably near his peak now.”

Dwyer, meanwhile, is preparing to farewell three-time European group 1 winner Asfoora, which competes in the group 2 King George Qatar Stakes at Goodwood on July 31.

“She’s going to have one more run before going to stud,” he said.

“It will be sad to see her go. We’ll have to find another one.”
