One of the best horror films of all time, and an Academy Award winner for "Best Makeup" in 1981, An American Werewolf in London turns 45 this year.

To celebrate this big anniversary, Universal has announced the cult classic is getting its very own Steelbook Edition, featuring over three hours of bonus feature content to boot.

Preorders for this special edition of An American Werewolf in London are now available at Amazon. That includes the film in 4K UHD, on Blu-ray, and as a digital copy. It's priced at $34.99 and will be released on October 6, 2026.

Like a lot of people, this is up there with my favorite horror films, and was one of the first "classics" I checked out when first getting into horror. I distinctly remember seeing Universal Orlando's Horror Make-Up Show when visiting Florida and being absolutely blown away, and immediately pestering my mother to rent the film for us when we got home.

I'm immensely happy to see it getting the proper 4K UHD and Steelbook treatment for its 45th. I'll leave a picture of the special edition just below as well, so you can see the full package before clicking through to preorder at Amazon.

Given how things are going with digital media across film, TV, and gaming, and platform owners repeatably taking away the rights to films or TV shows you've already paid for, I think it's more important than ever to be building up your physical collection of films. An American Werewolf in London isn't the only film getting a special edition release in the near future either, as Van Helsing as also recently gone up for preorder at Amazon, alongside the 80's Horror 5-Film Steelbook Library Case (priced at $144.99), featuring Nightmare on Elm Street, Poltergeist, The Lost Boys, The Shining, and Little Shop of Horrors. Both will also be released on October 6.
