As part of Pokémon's 30th anniversary celebrations in 2026, the classic Gen 1 remakes Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen were ported to the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 for $19.99 each. However, like so many other Pokémon releases, they didn't launch with the ability to move creatures to Pokémon Home. That changes this October when Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen finally get Home support.

Once your game and Pokémon Home are linked, you can transfer your favorite little guys from FireRed and LeafGreen to Home and then to your other Pokémon games. Keep in mind that, just like when Pokémon Legends: Z-A got Home support, any Pocket Monster transferred from FireRed and LeafGreen to another game cannot go back to its original game. So if you want to bring your FireRed Charizard on a little vacation to Lumiose City, know it won't be a temporary stay — that Charizard has a permanent home in Legends: Z-A now. Similarly, Pokémon from other games cannot be transferred to FireRed and LeafGreen.

Once you catch 'em all and connect Pokémon FireRed and/or Pokémon LeafGreen to Home, you'll be gifted a Celebi. Players who complete their game's Pokédex will then receive the Mythical Pokémon for free. You won't need to transfer your FR or LG Pokémon to Home to get the Celebi; the Pokémon registered in your Pokédex will then be registered in Home.

Game Freak and The Pokémon Company haven't specified the exact date Pokémon Home support will arrive as they've just given an October 2026 window. The update will also increase the number of Pokémon Premium Home subscribers can deposit from 6,000 to 9,000. Trainers will also be able to transfer Pokémon Go Pokémon that were caught with a Safari Ball to Home for the first time; the ball will switch to a Strange Ball.

Unfortunately, it's not all good news in the world of transferring Pokémon. The Nintendo 3DS app Pokémon Bank will be shut down on Feb. 25, 2027, at 10 p.m. EST. Trainers will then no longer be able to move Pokémon from Bank to Home past that date.
