The police are making elaborate security arrangements for the Independence Day celebrations to be organised at Rayapudi in the capital city of Amaravati. With several Ministers, MPs, MLAs and MLCs, judicial officers and other VIPs attending the celebrations, the police are checking every point between Vijayawada and Amaravati.

Bomb detection and sniffer fog squads, and rope parties have been roped in to check bushes , culverts and bridges. The police are also checking the lodges and hotels. “Security personnel will check vehicles at various points, including Prakasam barrage and Undavalli,” a police officer said on Thursday. Traffic diversions were likely to be imposed as a precautionary measure to avoid inconvenience to the general public, he said.
