Nicole Kidman is sharing a rare look back on her decade-long marriage to Tom Cruise.

The Oscar-winning legend, 59, reflected on her life in the spotlight in a British Vogue profile published Thursday, in which she said she became comfortable with fame quickly because of her marriage to Cruise, which lasted from 1990 to 2001.

“You have to remember literally, because of who I married at such a young age, I was thrust into it since I was 22,” she told the magazine. “Suddenly I was 22, 23 years old and I had this huge movie star husband. But it just seemed completely natural. We just fell madly in love and it was that simple.”

She continued, “I remember people saying to me, ‘OK, well this is really going to affect your career.’ I’m like, ‘I don’t care. I’m in love. I want to be married.’ And then I was his ‘wife’ and they were like, ‘See, we told you.’ I’m like, ‘So what? I wasn’t meant to marry the man I love? Of course I’ll throw my career away. I don’t care.’”

Cruise, 64, and Kidman met on the set of the 1990 movie Days of Thunder and were married later that year. Together, the former couple adopted children Isabella and Connor and starred in three movies together: Days of Thunder, Far and Away and Eyes Wide Shut.

They ultimately divorced in 2001, citing irreconcilable differences.

After the split, Kidman’s career in Hollywood continued to thrive with projects like Moulin Rouge!, The Hours, Bewitched, Big Little Lies, Being the Ricardos, Babygirl and Lioness. She went on to win an Oscar for The Hours in 2003.

In her personal life, she married country singer Keith Urban in 2006, with whom she shares two children: Sunday Rose, 18, and Faith, 15. Urban and Kidman were together for 19 years before separating in 2025. They finalized their divorce in January.

Cruise went on to marry Katie Holmes; they remained together from 2006 to 2012.

Kidman has reflected on the whirlwind nature of her first marriage before. In a 2016 interview with Red magazine, she said about tying the knot with the Top Gun actor at age 23: “I was so young when I got married. I look back now and I’m like, ‘What?’”

“You look at Taylor Swift, I mean how old is she? She’s 26. I had two kids by the time I was 27 and I’d been married for four years. But that’s what I wanted,” she said at the time.
