According to Ukrinform, The Wall Street Journal reported this, citing its own sources.

According to the newspaper's sources, during the Combined Resolve exercises, Ukrainian drone operators were able to easily detect and defeat U.S. troops and armored vehicles.

U.S. troops were tasked with attacking positions defended by a simulated enemy supported by the Unmanned Systems Forces. The attacking force was equipped with standard electronic warfare (EW) and counter-drone systems.

One participant in the exercises said that heavy armored vehicles raised clouds of dust, making them easy for Ukrainian drones to detect. Another source noted that the drones "destroyed" the vehicles so quickly that U.S. vehicles had to be repeatedly brought back into the exercise as new units so that the training could continue.

The scenario was repeated several times over the course of two weeks. Eventually, according to a U.S. Army representative, American forces learned to disperse more effectively, use camouflage, and employ electronic warfare systems.

According to U.S. officials briefed on the exercises, Ukrainian drone operators completely "destroyed" the U.S. armored brigade during the training.

The report also says that, during the exercise, Ukrainian soldiers were assigned to support U.S. forces, and Nemesis also demonstrated high effectiveness in offensive operations.

The six-month Combined Resolve exercise took place in April and May at a training area in Germany. About 3,500 U.S. service members participated; the number of Ukrainian troops was not disclosed.

The U.S. Army was not the first force to be defeated by Ukrainian drones, the newspaper's sources emphasized.

In May 2025, Ukrainian Armed Forces drone operators "defeated" British, Estonian, and other NATO forces during exercises in the Baltic region. During other exercises this spring, Ukrainian drone teams also defeated troops from Sweden and other NATO countries.

As Ukrinform reported, the international Aurora 2026 military exercises were held in Sweden, where Ukrainian drone operators demonstrated their combat experience in using UAVs and striking targets under modern warfare conditions.
