The BJP on Thursday (August 13, 2026) accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of “arrogance” and “indiscipline”, claiming that he repeatedly disrupted Parliament.

Senior BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad said at a press conference that the Monsoon Session of Parliament “fell victim to the arrogance, indiscipline, and unruliness of one leader”, referring to the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.

Mr. Prasad also criticised Mr. Gandhi for his protest last month outside the Prime Minister’s residence. “Rahul Gandhi ji, along with his sister (Priyanka Gandhi Vadra), went and sat at the gate of the Prime Minister’s residence without taking permission,” he said.

“He is not an ordinary person. His father was Prime Minister, his grandmother was Prime Minister, his great-grandfather was Prime Minister. So, he knows what the sanctity of the Prime Minister’s residence is and what the security implications are. Despite that, he went and sat there,” Mr. Prasad said, referring to the Congress protest against the recent NEET question paper leak and police action against protesting students in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.

Mr. Prasad also accused Mr. Gandhi of “changing goalposts” by demanding Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s resignation and turning down the latter’s offer of a debate on the issues raised by the Opposition. “When they said that the government was ready for discussion, he demanded the resignation... Rahul Gandhi kept changing goalposts,” Mr. Prasad said.

Rejecting Mr. Gandhi’s allegations regarding last month’s police action against protesting students, the BJP leader said the action was taken according to established protocol and in consultation with magistrates and authorised police officers. He said the government had already clarified that there had been no firing during the protests.

Further accusing the Congress of disrupting Lok Sabha proceedings, Mr. Prasad said, “The House is as much yours as it is ours.”

He also mentioned the students’ protests in Jharkhand, where Congress ally Jharkhand Mukti Morcha is in power, and claimed that Mr. Gandhi was silent over police action against protesters there.
