WASHINGTON, August 14. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump has signed a proclamation imposing 100% tariffs on imports of certain drones and their components, the White House reported.

"I determine that it is necessary and appropriate to impose ad valorem duties on certain UAS [unmanned aircraft systems] and UAS components," Trump said. "Specifically, I determine that it is necessary and appropriate to impose a 100% ad valorem duty rate on the import of UAS with a maximum take-off weight of more than 25 kilograms, UAS that integrate thermal imagers, UAS docking stations, and certain UAS components," he added.

The proclamation also imposes a 25% ad valorem tariff on certain smaller drones and other drone components.

According to Trump, the measures are aimed in particular at strengthening US national security by increasing domestic drone production.

The document specifies that the tariff rate on products from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and member states of the European Union will be capped at 15%, while the tariff rate on products from Britain will be no higher than 10%.
