Oriental Mindoro inflation eases to 7.4 percent in July

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — The province’s inflation rate decreased to 7.4 percent in July, down from 8 percent in June, as reported by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in Oriental Mindoro during a briefing on August 13.

Charlyn Romero-Cantos, the province’s chief statistician, attributed the downtrend primarily to slower price increases in housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, which posted an annual rate of 15.3 percent and contributed 46.7 percent to the month’s overall inflation.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages followed as the second-largest contributor at 4.7 percent, accounting for 22.7 percent of total inflation.

Transport costs, meanwhile, rose by 10.2 percent, representing a 12.3 percent share to total inflation. For the bottom 30 percent income group, inflation also slid down to 10.7 percent in July from 11.4 percent in June], still noticeably higher than the provincial average.

Romero-Cantos said Oriental Mindoro’s average inflation rate recorded from January through July this year stands at 5.4 percent. /pai
