Narayana Medical College and Hospital conducted an awareness walk in Nellore on Thursday (August 13, 2026), on the occasion of World Organ Donation Day, to create awareness among the public about the importance of organ donation.

Around 3,000 participants, including Narayana doctors, students, members of the PMP Association, anganwadi workers, ASHA workers and residents, took part in the programme.

The walk was flagged off by Municipal Commissioner Y.O. Nandan, District Medical and Health Officer V. Sujatha and Narayana Medical College Dean P. Srinivasulu Reddy.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Nandan said awareness about organ donation among the public was steadily increasing. He said the timely availability of donated organs could give critically ill patients an opportunity to live longer.

He appealed to people to consider donating organs after death so that organs do not go to waste and can instead bring hope and a new lease of life to several families. He said awareness about organ donation needed to be strengthened in both urban and rural areas.

The District Medical and Health Officer said the main objective of the programme was to educate and motivate people about the importance of organ donation. She appealed to the public to understand its significance and come forward to donate organs.

She said that when families consent to organ donation from eligible brain-dead donors, several lives can be saved. She commended Narayana Medical College and Hospital for conducting organ donation awareness programmes over the past week.
