Tension prevailed at R.S. Puram in Coimbatore on Thursday evening after several persons raised concerns on the stability of a three-storey building on West Sambandam Road.

According to police, people living close to the building complained that the it was shaking. Police and officials from different departments, including the Fires and Rescue Services, visited the spot.

Over 30 people, working in jewellery-making units in the 20-year-old building, were evacuated. Five fire tenders were brought to the location as a precaution.

Officials, including an executive engineer from the Public Works Department, inspected the building. They allowed the workers to continue their job. The officials instructed the building owner to conduct a stability check by its architect and submit a report, police sources said.
