‘Walang VIP’: LTO summons actor over supercar with ‘fake plates’

MANILA, Philippines — An actor owning a luxury supercar has been slapped with a show cause order by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) after the vehicle was spotted driving on a public road with a suspected fake license plate.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao ordered the action after checks revealed that the vehicle’s displayed plate bore an alphanumeric combination that did not match its official registration.

The LTO did not identify the actor who owns the supercar.

Summoned over fake plates

The registered owner and designated driver were ordered to appear before the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) and submit a verified or sworn explanation regarding the alleged violation involving the use of number plates.

They were also directed to explain why their driver’s license should not be suspended or revoked on the ground that they may be considered an “Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.”

The LTO also imposed a 90-day preventive suspension on the designated driver’s license and ordered its surrender to the IID.

No VIP treatment for actor

The supercar was placed under alarm status, while the LTO Law Enforcement Service was directed to impound the vehicle.

“Walang VIP sa pagpapatupad ng batas, (There are no VIPs in enforcing the law),” Lacanilao said in a press release on Friday.

He stressed that the agency would hold anyone accountable if found to have violated traffic and vehicle registration rules.

“Walang palakasan, walang palusot, at walang exemption (There is no going around, and no exemption),” he added.

The LTO reminded motorists and registered vehicle owners to ensure that their documents, license plates and vehicle registrations are legitimate and that all required obligations have been fulfilled before using their vehicles on public roads.

The agency said a person’s status, name or the value of their vehicle would not exempt them from the enforcement of regulations. — Rendell Ivan Manuel, INQUIRER.net trainee /mr
