Princess Ilyana Alia of Pahang has married British GT racing driver Christopher Froggatt in a lavish ceremony at the Shangri-La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, following the couple's traditional Islamic solemnisation on August 7.

The bride, 29, formally styled Yang Amat Mulia Tengku Puteri Ilyana Alia, is the daughter of Sultan Abdullah, the former King of Malaysia and sixth Sultan of Pahang, and former actress Julia Rais.

Her new husband, 32-year-old Christopher Froggatt, is a British racing driver and co-founder of Tempesta Racing, competing in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup.

For the celebrations, Princess Ilyana wore two elegant creations by renowned Malaysian couturier Datuk Radzuan Radziwill.

At the solemnisation ceremony, the Princess stunned in a romantic lace gown with a high neckline, fitted silhouette and long sleeves. The look was paired with a half-up, half-down hairstyle and heirloom jewels from the Pahang royal collection.

She chose a glittering Art Deco diamond tiara belonging to Queen Azizah, along with a diamond and emerald necklace and matching chandelier earrings.

The Princess' second look, worn for the main ceremony, appeared equally elegant as she made her way through ivory floral arrangements to the pelamin, the traditional wedding dais.

Notably, it was completed with an antique diamond tiara from the Pahang royal family's collection. The historic piece is said to date from the 19th century and is designed in a classic garland style, with scrolling and neoclassical leaf motifs.

The celebrations included prayers, the exchange of rings and the presentation of marital gifts.

The Sultanate of Pahang also issued a statement, wishing that the newlyweds 'may be blessed with happiness, grace, and lasting prosperity as they begin this new chapter together, building a home founded on peace, love, and mercy.'

Among the guests were the Crown Prince of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, members of the Pahang Royal Household and Pahang Chief Minister Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail. Sheik Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates was also in attendance.

He later began his military career at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1978, where he became friends with the future Ruler of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Sultan Abdullah was commissioned as a second lieutenant and promoted to captain in 1980, serving with the Royal Armoured Corps. By the time he completed his military service in 2004, he had risen to the rank of brigadier general.

He served as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, or King of Malaysia, from 2019 to 2024.

Malaysia's monarchy is unusual in that the throne rotates among the rulers of its nine hereditary royal states. Every five years, the Conference of Rulers elects one of them to serve as the country's King.

Froggatt, meanwhile, has built an unconventional career in international motorsport. His passion for cars, quad bikes and motocross began in childhood, but he did not enter competitive car racing until the age of 24.

According to his official Tempesta Racing biography, a Ferrari high-performance driving event at the manufacturer's Fiorano test track in Italy, attended as a guest of a close friend, proved to be the turning point in his journey towards international motor racing.

He went on to establish Tempesta Racing in 2017 and has since become a successful GT driver, competing at the highest levels of endurance racing.

The couple have maintained a notably private relationship and revealed little about their romance before their marriage.

Their union brings together two very different spheres - Pahang's centuries-old royal tradition and the fast-paced world of international motorsport.
