Two men have been charged with attempted murder after the father of the murdered schoolgirl Sara Sharif was attacked in prison.

Steven Sansom, 47, and Adam Watson, 39, are accused of trying to kill Urfan Sharif at HMP Belmarsh on New Year’s Day last year.

The Crown Prosecution Service said the pair were due to appear at Westminster magistrates court on 26 August.

It is understood the charges relate to an incident in which Sharif, who was convicted in 2024 of the murder of his daughter, was allegedly ambushed in a cell at the category A prison by two inmates.
