Tom Felton said he was choking back tears when he noticed his Harry Potter co-star Warwick Davis at his Broadway performance of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

The Draco Malfoy actor, 38, was surprised by the actor who plays Filius Flitwick, 56, at his performance in New York, which has just been extended for two months.

Tom, who has reprised his role as Draco for the stage production, shared a photograph of the pair embracing backstage after Warwick came to watch the show.

He also posted a clip of himself and Warwick at the stage door greeting fans who had waited to meet him after the performance.

Tom also shared a snap from his dressing room, where he took a photo of a Polaroid image of him and Warwick from the same night.

He wrote: 'Had a special guest & dear friend come see the show tonight - tbh I nearly cried on stage saying 'Wingardium Leviosa' knowing he was watching - @warwickadavis #swishandflick'.

The show is Tom's Broadway debut and the first time an actor from the original Harry Potter film cast reprised their film role in the stage production.

The play takes place 19 years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows where Draco is now an adult.

His son is Scorpius Malfoy, who becomes close friends with Harry's son, Albus Severus Potter, despite the enormous history between their fathers.

Roles were reversed earlier this year, when Tom went to support Daniel in his Broadway show, Every Brilliant Thing, in March.

Daniel, who played the titular character from 2001 to 2011, beamed as he hugged Tom who starred as Harry's nemesis Draco in the films.

Tom went to see Daniel's new play and posted snaps of them together afterwards as well as a throwback image of them in the films.

The star penned in the caption: 'Broomsticks to Broadway @brilliantbway @cursedchildus.'

The duo's views have very publicly contrasted ever since Daniel opposed and Tom supported JK Rowling, 61, in her vocal opposition to the view that gender identity is different from birth sex.

In 2020 Daniel joined a host of other Harry Potter stars in hitting out at the author's trans exclusionary views, while Tom has remained loyal to JK – insisting he is 'not affected or attuned' to the views of the creator.

JK has caused ructions around the world with her stance on Trans rights – which have led to her being branded a trans-exclusionary radical feminist (TERF).

In 2020, Daniel released a statement through The Trevor Project, stating that transgender women are women and that any statement to the contrary 'erases the identity and dignity of transgender people'.

Tom meanwhile has remained on JK's side and kept his stance on her views guarded – something which has led to his remaining in the franchise.

Their reunion comes after Daniel recently shared his reaction to seeing photos of the cast members starring in the Harry Potter reboot TV show over a decade after he rose to fame playing the titular wizard.

The new HBO series will star Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.

Daniel shared his reaction to seeing the photos of the newcomers taking the baton to play the beloved characters in the series, which is slated for an early 2026 release date.

Speaking on behalf of some of his former costars, such as Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, he spoke about their experience with childhood fame and wanting to protect the young stars.

'We have all said, you know, you just see pictures of these kids and you just want to grab them and hug them,' he told People. 'That's the impulse that I think that we, mainly, all have.'

He revealed that he has been in touch with Rupert and Emma, and the trio have shared their thoughts about the new adaptation series set to be released in seven seasons for each of Rowling's books in the series.

He said he and his former costars have discussed 'how surreal [it is] to watch people starting off on that journey, all those years later'.

He starred in the first movie in the film series at just age 11, playing the same role for a decade, and wrapped the final installment, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 when he was 21.
