What a Drilling Program Actually Means
A drilling program is an exploration campaign where a company bores narrow holes deep into the rock to extract cylindrical samples, called core. Geologists then assay that core to measure the concentration of metals like silver, lead, and zinc.
The goal is not to mine the metal immediately but to map the size, shape, and grade of a mineral deposit. Better drill results can increase confidence in a resource, which helps a junior company attract investment or eventually plan a mine.
Why Silver X Expanded the Program
The decision to scale up came after workers cut channel samples along the walls of an underground tunnel at the Silvia Vein. Those samples returned 735 grams of silver per tonne over a 65-meter stretch and 649 grams per tonne over 40 meters.
Silver X also identified four continuous high-grade silver shoots within the area covered by its current resource estimate. The company said the data improved its understanding of how the mineralization continues and distributes underground, justifying a much larger drill campaign.
The program now targets 6,650 meters of diamond drilling, more than five times the original scope. The work is underway at the María Luz sector, part of the Red Silver project within the broader Nueva Recuperada property in Huancavelica, a high-altitude region in central Peru known for its silver-rich epithermal veins.
A Silver-Heavy Asset in a Historic District
Silver X describes Red Silver as one of its purest silver assets. At the grades reported, silver represents more than 90% of the in-situ metal value, with only minor contributions from lead and zinc.
The Nueva Recuperada project, which hosts Red Silver, covers roughly 20,472 hectares in a prolific Andean silver belt. A 2025 resource update reported measured and indicated resources of 4.3 million tonnes and inferred resources of 17.2 million tonnes, with silver grades of 118.49 grams per tonne and 162.78 grams per tonne respectively.
The company has also been acquiring nearby satellite properties. In April 2025, Silver X announced a deal for the 7,712-hectare Pampas Gold-Silver Project, where historical rock-chip samples reached up to 1,065 grams per tonne of silver and 85.9 grams per tonne of gold.
Exploration, Not Production
It is important to stress that Red Silver is an exploration-stage project. The channel samples that triggered the drilling expansion are promising, but they come from surface and underground exposures, not from a working mine.
Drill results will need to confirm whether the high grades continue at depth and along strike. Only then can the company update its resource estimate and eventually study the economics of building a mine, a process that typically takes years.
Silver X has also launched a separate 40,000-meter drill campaign across Nueva Recuperada, the largest in company history. The broader strategy aims to expand and upgrade resources, with a long-term vision that could support around 6 million silver-equivalent ounces by 2028, according to company projections.
What This Means for Investors and the Region
For foreign investors, the expansion signals that Silver X sees enough geological potential to commit significant capital to drilling. Junior explorers like Silver X rely on positive drill results to attract funding from larger mining companies or institutional investors.
The Huancavelica region has a long mining history, and increased exploration activity can bring temporary jobs and infrastructure improvements to remote Andean communities. However, any move from exploration to actual production remains subject to Peruvian permitting, community agreements, and volatile metal prices.
Silver prices have historically benefited from global economic uncertainty, making pure silver assets like Red Silver particularly attractive during periods of market turbulence. Still, investors should remember that exploration is high-risk, and not every promising channel sample translates into an economically viable mine.
What Happens Next
Silver X will continue drilling at the María Luz sector and eventually release assay results from the core samples. Those results will be compared against the channel samples to see if the high grades persist at depth.
If the drill results confirm the channel-sample grades, the company would likely update its NI 43-101 resource estimate, a standardized Canadian disclosure document that quantifies mineral resources. An updated resource with higher grades or larger tonnage could boost the company’s valuation and attract strategic partners.
In parallel, the company’s 40,000-meter campaign across the wider Nueva Recuperada property will test other veins and targets. The combined data from both programs will shape whether Silver X can meet its 2028 production target of 6 million silver-equivalent ounces.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Silver X Mining?
Silver X Mining is a Canadian-listed junior explorer and producer focused on silver-polymetallic assets in central Peru. Its flagship is the Nueva Recuperada project in Huancavelica, a district-scale property in a historic silver belt, and it is actively acquiring and exploring satellite assets like Pampas and Ccasahuasi to grow its resource base.
What does 735 g/t silver mean?
It means one tonne of rock contains 735 grams of silver — very high-grade, since many operating silver mines process ore grading 100 to 300 grams per tonne. However, channel samples are taken from exposed rock faces and may not reflect the average grade of the whole deposit.
Is Silver X currently mining at Red Silver?
No — Red Silver is an exploration project, and the company is drilling to define a mineral resource. Any potential production remains years away and subject to further studies, environmental permits, and community agreements under Peruvian law.
