CEBU CITY, Philippines — A group of young graduates in General Santos City touched hearts online after they were seen stopping to help an elderly street dweller and sharing their food with him despite being tired and hungry themselves.

The heartwarming moment was captured by netizen Regine Arceo Sonsona as she was heading home from a graduation and completion ceremony at the HTC Trinidad Complex on August 12, 2026.

Sonsona said she did not personally know the young men, but they had attended the same program. She knew how tiring the six-hour ceremony had been, making their gesture even more meaningful.

“Personally, hindi ko po sila kilala. Galing po kami sa iisang program, and I know kung gaano po talaga sila kapagod at the same time kagutom,” Sonsona said.

(I don’t know them personally. We came from the same program so I know how tired and hungry they were.)

As the ceremony ended at around 6 p.m., Sonsona found herself stuck in traffic on the way home. It was during this time that she noticed the group walking along the road.

“Pa-uwi na, kasagsagan po ng traffic. We saw them walking lang tapos pag-pass by nila kay Tatay, literally gi-help gid nila without any hesitation,” she recalled.

(It was peak traffic hour. When they passed by father, they literally helped him without hesitation.)

Youngsters hungry, too

The graduates and completers from across General Santos City had attended the same program that day.

Despite spending hours at the ceremony and being hungry themselves, the young men did not hesitate to share what they had with the elderly man.

Sonsona said the traffic gave her the chance to capture the moment on video, which she later shared online after being touched by what she witnessed.

“Salute to these young men. Imagine they were in a six-hour program ceremony, tired and very hungry,” she wrote in her post.

The simple gesture resonated with netizens, who praised the young graduates for extending kindness to someone in need, proving that even after a long and tiring day, there is always room to help others.
