Google might have another fitness tracker in the works, as a pair of new ads online show off a mysterious little pebble that’s neither a Fitbit Air nor a Pixel Watch 5 – but is it anything at all?

Some Pixel 11 ads from Google on YouTube have surfaced for some users over the past day, with the ads showcasing the refreshed Google Pixel lineup. One has a pair of Pixel 11 phones and a Pixel Watch 5 in their “Fog” colors, while the other focuses on the various greens in this year’s lineup.

A mysterious device we’ve not seen before is in both ads, a screen-equipped tracker showing what looks like a condensed version of the Pixel Watch 5’s UI on an oblong display. One user posted screenshots of multiple ads on Reddit, and we can confirm at least one other user who saw the same ads.

The unknown tracker is the same basic shape as the core pebble that is the Fitbit Air, but with the overall look closer to a Fitbit Charge tracker.

It’s hard to know for certain exactly what this tracker is, or if it’s real at all. My first reaction to seeing one of these ads was “I bet that’s AI-generated,” with Google perhaps slipping in using its own tools, but having two ads showcasing the exact same device would suggest that’s not the case – maybe, hopefully. It is rather odd that the Fitbit Air is not being shown here, despite the screen-less tracker appearing alongside the new Pixel lineup in other marketing materials.

There’s been no concrete evidence around a potential “Fitbit Charge 7,” though it has been roughly three years since the Charge 6 made its debut. Since relaunching as Google Health on the software side, the “Fitbit” brand has become dedicated solely to hardware, with existing devices still available for purchase. It stands to reason Google could release a new screen-equipped fitness tracker, though the Fitbit Air’s success and the overall industry push for screen-less trackers puts a question mark on the whole situation.

We’ll update this post if Google provides any clarification on the ads but, for now, it certainly remains a head-scratcher.
