To ensure the safety of labourers employed in textile, garment, and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the district, a ‘Migrant Workers Help Centre’ was launched during the Independence Day celebrations here on Saturday (August 15).

Information pertaining to employment, accommodation, wages, healthcare, government welfare schemes, grievances, and emergency support would be provided over phone: 0421-2345100 and WhatsApp: 9482676719. Complaints will be addressed in coordination with the departments concerned, District Collector Manish Narnaware said, launching the helpline. It will operate between 9.00 a.m. and 7.00 p.m. from Monday to Saturday.

Earlier in the day, the District Collector hoisted the Tricolour on the premises of Chikkanna Government Arts College and received the ceremonial salute from the police. Commissioner of Police, Tiruppur City, S. Rajeshwari; Superintendent of Police Srishti Singh; MLAS; and senior officials of Revenue and other departments were present.

The District Collector distributed certificates of appreciation to 101 police personnel (35 belonging to the city police, and the rest to the rural police), 10 Fire and Rescue Services personnel, and 270 other government officials and staff members.

Alongside recognising the meritorious services of 381 awardees, the District Collector also honoured descendants of freedom fighters, and handed over welfare assistance worth ₹23.47 lakh to five beneficiaries under government schemes.

Cultural programmes by over 600 school students on patriotism were the highlight of the Independence Day celebrations.
