Pug Jinny Lu crowned World’s Ugliest Dog in hilarious 50th anniversary contest

Gap-toothed grins, patchy coats and tongues hanging loose were on full display at the World's Ugliest Dog Contest.

The Sonoma County Fairgrounds in Santa Rosa, California, celebrated the event's 50th anniversary on Friday (14 August), an event that has grown from a quirky county fair attraction into an internationally recognised celebration of rescue dogs.

Jinny Lu, a rescue pug from Ukiah, was crowned the winner. The pug was rescued from the dog meat trade in South Korea and is known for "arguing" with her own reflection, according to contest organisers.

Jinny Lu’s owner, Michelle Grady, takes home $5,000 and a trip to the Today Show.
