Sam Beddison, a philanthropist and entrepreneur, has put his contemporary Byron Bay residence on the market with a price guide of $15 million, local sources say.** **

Should price hopes be met, he would just about triple what he paid for the address.

Records show the existing property on the site was bought by Beddison for $5.3 million in 2023, and approved development plans lodged with Byron Shire Council in 2024 reveal alterations and additions with an estimated cost of about $2,986,000.

The result is a modern five-bedroom, five-bathroom house centred around an open-air courtyard. Stone cladding walls, spotted gum timber, soaring voids, a striking sculptural staircase and pops of colour adorn the exterior and interiors.

A dedicated wellness wing includes a sauna, zen room, gym and traditional Japanese soaking bath, as stated on the listing. There is also a new pool, spa and terrace.

Beddison is listed as a director of Rigby Park, a private equity investment firm, alongside his mother Robyn Beddison, and is an event host for charitable causes. His late father was prominent Victorian businessman and philanthropist Tony Beddison.

Tony Beddison founded recruitment giant Beddison Group in 1977, and was the former chairman of The Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne and a director of the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2002, was awarded the Centenary Medal in 2003, and in 2016 was made a Companion of the Order of Australia.

Will Phillips and Elisma Iesu of Sotheby’s International Realty Byron Bay are selling the property, and both declined to comment on any aspect of the listing when contacted by this masthead.

**Entrepreneur’s rural move **

Colin Tate, an entrepreneur and philanthropist, and his husband Matthew Fatches, an interior architect turned cattle farmer, have settled on a rural home away from the big city.

Transfer documents this month show the couple have paid $11,425,000 for a farmhouse in Glenquarry in the Southern Highlands. They sold their terrace in Sydney’s Potts Point for $7.6 million in June, as stated on the listing.

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom Glenquarry residence is situated on 43 hectares and has a pool, tennis court and rose garden.

Oak floorboards, a country-style chef’s kitchen with Carrara marble counters and a farmhouse sink, and French doors, adorn the interiors.

Tate said in May that the couple decided to sell the four-bedroom, three-bathroom Potts Point home as he would only be there every three weeks due to travel. He also said he enjoyed their new rural home being close to the airport.

Tate founded publishing company Conexus Financial and was the former foundation chair of NeuRA, a medical institute dedicated to improving the lives of those with brain and nervous system disorders.

The Glenquarry manor was sold by Samuel Lindsay of Drew Lindsay Sotheby’s International Realty, and the Potts Point house was sold by Jason Boon, Geoff Cox and Joss Reid of Richardson & Wrench Elizabeth Bay and Potts Point.

Blue Mountains retreat for sale

Amanda Lennon, an interior designer and philanthropist, and her husband Nick Lennon, a director at property developer Lennium Group, are selling their Blue Mountains retreat as their son focuses on sitting the HSC next year. The family’s primary residence is in Sydney’s Vaucluse.

Records show Mrs Lennon bought the existing five-bedroom, four-bathroom property on the site in Katoomba for $2.6 million in 2023. It is now selling with a price guide of $4 million.

She said that the search for the perfect home took more than a year, and with her interior design skills, a renovation was completed by Christmas 2023.

The existing indoor pool was converted to a magnesium pool, and the family added a wine cellar, Bocce court, paved terrace courtyard with a fire pit and extensive landscaping.

The new fitout features chevron-laid timber floors, marble finishes and bifold doors that lead to the terrace.

The property has been featured on the Contemporary Hotels website with an average rate starting from $1622 for a minimum of two nights.

“It’s been both our family home, and we have extensively entertained and listed it with Contemporary Hotels as a luxury family home,” Mrs Lennon told this masthead.

“We have enjoyed the home, the mountain lifestyle, as it’s very laid back with outdoor activities, hiking and golf.”
