The Kozhikode city committee of the All India Lawyers Union (AILU) has demanded the establishment of a dedicated court for cases registered under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act at the Kozhikode District Court complex. The demand was raised at the unit conference of the AILU Kozhikode City Committee, which noted that the absence of a designated SC/ST court in the district was causing delays in the disposal of such cases.

Kozhikode District Library Council president K.M. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the conference on Sunday. AILU State Committee members Tom K. Thomas, M.K. Dinesan, Joju Cyriac, Ashok Kumar and K.N. Jayakumar, and Bar Council member M. Jayadeep spoke. The conference also elected a 31-member city committee. K.P. Sreenesh was elected president, K. Advaith secretary and K. Sajitha treasurer. The new office-bearers said they would strive to protect the rights of lawyers and contribute to strengthening the justice delivery system.
