Apple Wallet’s support for digital driver’s licenses keeps expanding, with North Carolina the latest state to announce that it’s launching soon. Here are the details.
North Carolina set to launch digital IDs, with Apple Wallet support on the way
A new digital driver’s license is launching soon, with support in Apple Wallet to follow shortly after.
North Carolina has announced that mobile IDs are coming later this year, letting residents obtain a digital driver’s license that can be stored on their iPhone.
Initially, the ID will be available only in the official NC Wallet app. But the state says support for Apple Wallet is coming “in early 2027.”
If you’re a North Carolina resident, you can apply to participate in a 60-minute feedback session.
North Carolina is exploring mobile IDs and new ways to make digital services easier for residents. We want to learn about your experiences and get your feedback on some early ideas.
Participants will earn a $50 digital gift card for their assistance.
Beyond North Carolina’s confirmed Apple Wallet support, recently we’ve seen signs of several other states preparing to adopt Wallet IDs. Those include Utah, Virginia, and Oklahoma.
