The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Thrissur city unit has lodged a complaint with the Thrissur City Police Commissioner against P. Akshay, a former temporary staff member at the party’s district office, alleging that he made defamatory and baseless allegations against the party and its leaders.

In the complaint, BJP Thrissur city president Justin Jacob alleged that Mr. Akshay had, over the past few days, made “false, defamatory and misleading” statements about the BJP’s Thrissur district office and its activities through public platforms and social media with the intention of tarnishing the party’s image.

Mr. Akshay had alleged that huge amounts of unaccounted cash had been brought to the party office during the Assembly election campaign. He claimed that the money arrived in 17 sacks and that senior party leaders had diverted the funds for personal use instead of distributing them for election-related activities. Mr. Akshay further claimed that he had complained to the BJP’s Central leadership and the State president but received no response.

‘Personal vengeance’

Mr. Jacob said Mr. Akshay had worked only as a temporary staff member at the district office and was removed from service following complaints regarding his conduct. “The allegations are motivated by personal vengeance after his removal from the job,” the complaint alleged.

The BJP has sought legal action against Mr. Akshay and said it would produce video recordings of his statements, screenshots of social media posts and other material as evidence during the investigation.
