Andhra Pradesh students have secured gold and silver medals at a national level quantum computing course conducted by the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), jointly undertaken by the IITs and IISc.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday met and congratulated the students who excelled in the four-week “Quantum Algorithms and Qiskit” course at the Secretariat.
At least six medal winners have already secured employment in quantum computing companies, including three students who have obtained jobs with a quantum computing company located at Meda Towers.
The course was conducted under the guidance of experts from IIT Madras and IBM Research. Of the students who won medals nationally, A.P. accounted for four gold and 14 silver medals, while students from other parts of the country secured four gold and 16 silver medals.
The performance was particularly notable given the overwhelming response from Andhra Pradesh. As many as 1,04,220 applications were received from A.P., compared with 1,04,565 from the rest of the country. Around 19,000 candidates from A.P. appeared for the examination, compared to 11,000 from other States.
Among the candidates who qualified, 2,839 were from A.P., compared with 2,700 from the rest of the country.
Students of Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT), Nuzvid, accounted for seven of the 14 silver medals won by A.P. students. Four B.Tech students from the State, Ch. Rama Soujanya of Visakhapatnam, T. Soumya Sri of Vijayawada, Anil Srinivas of West Godavari district and Yashwanth of Rajamahendravaram won gold medals.
The Chief Minister had earlier highlighted the large number of applications from the State for the quantum computing skill course conducted by IIT Madras and IBM Research.
Mr. Naidu had said that the government was working towards creating one lakh quantum computing professionals in Andhra Pradesh.
The Chief Minister had also announced that he would personally meet and congratulate the gold and silver medal winners.
