Legarda extends medical leave anew

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Loren Legarda has asked for another extension of her medical leave abroad amid an ombudsman investigation on her and her son for allegedly anomalous solar projects.

Senate Secretary Renato Bantug Jr. confirmed that Legarda has extended her medical leave again from Aug 17 to 19.

“Yes. Her office sent in a letter this morning. Medical leave from 17 to 19 August,” Bantug said.

Legarda has been on leave, missing out on her senator-judge duties, since Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla announced two weeks ago that a preliminary investigation is ongoing on her, son Batangas Rep. Leandro Leviste and former energy secretary Alfonso Cusi for plunder and graft.

Remulla accused Legarda of using her post to secure exclusive solar power franchises for Leviste that allegedly resulted in multibillion-peso “ghost electricity” losses.
