For photojournalists, a photograph is often the most immediate record of an event. It can document a moment, provide context and, at times, reveal details that may escape a hurried reading of the news. This idea forms the basis of ‘News in Frames’, the annual photography exhibition organised by the Vizag Photo Journalists’ Association (VPJA) on the occasion of World Photography Day.

Twenty-six photographers representing various media organisations are participating in the exhibition, bringing together photographs taken during the past year. The collection includes news images and significant events from Visakhapatnam, offering visitors an opportunity to revisit developments through the eyes of photographers who were present on the ground.
Among the subjects are the Milan naval exercise and the President’s Fleet Review, cyclones and their impact, motorsports events and several other incidents and occasions that shaped the city’s news calendar. The photographs bring together different locations, subjects and moments, while retaining the immediacy associated with news photography.
The exhibition also draws attention to the perspective that a photographer brings to a familiar event. A single frame can contain several layers of information, from the principal action to people watching it, the setting and small details that provide a wider understanding of what is happening.
The exhibition will be inaugurated by Ketan Garg, Commissioner, Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation.

Waltair Photographic Society
Another photography exhibition in the city will bring together photographers from across Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Organised by the Waltair Photographic Society, affiliated to the Andhra Pradesh Photography Akademi, the exhibition features the work of 30 photographers from Visakhapatnam, Chennai, Kakinada, Rajahmundry and Vijayawada.
The exhibition moves beyond the news frame, with photographs exploring wildlife, Nature, landscapes and candid wedding moments. The varied themes allow the participating photographers to approach photography through different subjects and visual sensibilities, from close observations of wildlife to expansive landscapes and unscripted moments at weddings.
The event is also part of the Waltair Photographic Society’s 25th anniversary celebrations. Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad, Padmabhushan awardee, chairman of the Viswa Hindu Parishad and president of the Loka Nayaka Foundation, will be the chief guest, while Jaladi Ravi, Principal of the Arts and Commerce College, Andhra University, will attend as the special guest.
The exhibition will also feature memorial and appreciation awards for photographers and journalists. Among the memorial awards is the Sri Palla Raja Rao Memorial Award for photographer K R Deepak of The Hindu, along with the Sri Bandi Venkata Ramana Rao Memorial Award for M R Satyanarayana Reddy.
