Latvia’s Defense Minister Raivis Melņis has ordered radar systems and drone detection equipment to be deployed along the country’s eastern border by the end of September in order to significantly strengthen border protection against unmanned aerial vehicles.

Delfi stated this in an article, according to Ukrinform.

Melņis explained that the radar systems still need to be prepared and integrated into the overall defense system. In addition, additional command-and-control systems must be purchased.

To significantly strengthen the protection of the eastern border, more radars must also be acquired by the end of September. Negotiations are currently under way with one country regarding the purchase of the required equipment, although the minister did not specify which country it is.

The Latvian Defense Ministry’s plan предусматривает that by the end of September the entire eastern border of the country will be covered by anti-drone systems.

At present, an automated system has already been deployed on one section of the border, allowing authorities to train on its use and test solutions in practice.

By the end of September, the goal is for the entire eastern border to be covered by mutually integrated and automatically controlled systems.

As Ukrinform previously reported, Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs said he had received intelligence indicating that Russia may be preparing provocations against the Baltic states.
