Controversial Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios says he has “made a huge mistake” that he takes full responsibility for after testing positive for banned substance cocaine and facing a potential lengthy suspension.
The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced on Wednesday night (AEST) that it had provisionally suspended Kyrgios under the tennis anti-doping program.
The 31-year-old provided a sample during an ATP 250 event in Mallorca, Spain, on June 22, then a World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)-accredited laboratory confirmed the presence of benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine, on July 17.
According to the ITIA, Kyrgios, the former world No.13 and 2022 Wimbledon finalist, is yet to appeal the provisional suspension.
