Saoirse Ronan was back on set for Sam Mendes' Beatles biopic this week, filming the famous Abbey Road scenes.

The Irish actress, 32, plays Linda McCartney, the late wife of Paul, played by Paul Mescal, in the ambitious big screen biopic.

Saoirse sported a fake baby bump for the new scenes, and teamed a blue minidress with knee-high socks.

At the time of the famous Abbey Road shoot on August 8 1969, which resulted in the iconic cover for the band's penultimate album, Linda was pregnant with her and Paul's first child together.

Their daughter Mary was born on August 28 1969 just days after the band finished recording the album.

Whilst it was freelance photographer and John Lennon's close friend Iain Macmillan who took the famous cover image, Linda snapped behind-the-scenes photos of the band.

By then Linda was already a celebrated photographer, earning her big break snapping the Rolling Stones for Town & Country magazine in 1966.

She was working as a receptionist and photography assistant for the publication at the time, but volunteered to attend a party hosted by the rock band. As the only photographer on board the yacht her shots launched her rock and roll career.

A year later whilst on assignment in London she met McCartney at the famous music club Bag O'Nails at the height of Beatlemania.

Far from remaining in her husband's shadow, Linda became his musical partner after The Beatles broke up, playing keyboards and singing harmonies in Wings.

The couple were married in a small civil ceremony at Marylebone Town Hall in March 1969 and remained together for almost three decades, until her death from breast cancer aged 56 in 1998.

Saoirse is joined in the biopic by Mia McKenna-Bruce as Ringo Starr's first wife, Maureen Starkey, Aimee Lou Wood as George Harrison's model wife Pattie Boyd, and Anna Sawai, as John Lennon's wife Yoko Ono.

'Maureen, Linda, Yoko and Pattie are four fascinating and unique figures in their own right,' said Mendes following the casting.

'I'm thrilled that we've managed to persuade four of the most talented women working in film today to join this amazing adventure.'

Alongside Paul Mescal as McCartney, Harris Dickinson plays John Lennon, Barry Keoghan is Ringo Starr and Joseph Quinn is George Harrison.

Entitled The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event, the project was announced last year.

The movies will each take the perspective of one member of The Beatles as they evolve from unknowns in Liverpool in the early 1960s to becoming the biggest band in the world and then breaking up in 1970.

It's the first time that surviving Beatles Paul and Ringo, and the families of the late John and George, have given the rights to feature films about them.

All four films are due to be released simultaneously in 2028.
