Open universities and flexible learning can help make higher education accessible to more people, P.V. Abdul Wahab, MP, has said.
He was speaking after inaugurating a seminar on open universities and education at Amal College of Advanced Studies, Nilambur, on Wednesday. The seminar was organised in association with Sree Narayana Guru Open University and Jan Shikshan Sansthan.
Mr. Wahab said open and distance learning offered opportunities for those unable to pursue conventional higher education to continue their studies and acquire new skills.
M.B. Gopalakrishnan, director of the Kozhikode Regional Centre of Sree Narayana Guru Open University, said flexible learning would bring changes to higher education. Technology could help expand learning opportunities based on students’ needs and convenience, he said.
Amal College Principal K.P. Mohammed Basheer presided. Chaliyar panchayat president Anushree Suresh, vice-president Shoukathali, ward member Basheer Kattumunda, JSS director V. Ummarkoya, and CEO V.K. Abdul Khader spoke. Experts K. Mohammed Shabeer and N. Shihabudeen led different sessions.
