After writing two articles where we discussed elite fantasy football players in Trey McBride and Lamar Jackson, Kyren Williams isn’t quite on that level.

That’s not saying that Williams is a bad player, but he’s not one of the best running backs in fantasy football right now. That said, Williams had the best season of his career in year two after a 3.0 PPG (PPR) rookie year on 35 attempts.

In 2023, Williams would show he has an elite ceiling, scoring 21.2 PPG in 12 games. Over that span, Williams had 228 carries, 5.0 YPC, 1,114 yards, and 12 touchdowns.

On top of that, Williams caught 32 passes for 206 yards and an additional three touchdowns.

With the Los Angeles Rams being one of the best offenses in the NFL with Matthew Stafford and Sean McVay, that means more red zone opportunities for Williams. Since 2023, Williams has never had a year with fewer than 10 rushing touchdowns.

As a receiver, Williams has never been elite, ranging between 32 and 36 catches each of his last three seasons. Williams had the lowest receiving yards mark of his career in 2024 with 182 receiving yards and the best last season with 281.

The problem with Williams is that after he scored 21.2 PPG, that went down to 17 PPG, still a good number, but more importantly, his efficiency dipped. In 2023, Williams had 5.0 YPC while in 2024 it was 4.1.

Then in 2025, Williams was able to get that efficiency mark back up to 4.8, but his fantasy football production would slip once again, this time to 15.5. While a running back scoring 15.5 is still valuable, it's a big difference between that 20 plus PPG range.

The other question with Williams is if this will be the year Blake Corum gets more involved. Corum was a strong running back prospect out of Michigan, going 83rd overall in the 3rd round.

It’s also worth keeping in mind that Corum was drafted just one year after Williams had his big 2023 season. The reason this could matter is that Williams thrives on touchdowns and rushing volume since he’s not a fantastic receiver. Williams has had at least 225 rushing attempts in all three of his last three years.

With Corum, he only had 58 carries, for 3.7 YPC as a rookie, but that went up in 2025. Last season, Corum had 145 carries for 5.1 YPC.

At the same time, I’m not willing to just assume Corum is going to limit the touches of Williams because we could just see Corum play well again with around 150 carries and add value to the Rams that way.

Williams has proven that he can be a good fantasy football asset for two years with Corum on the team, so I’m not totally willing to avoid him.

With that in mind, Williams is firmly an RB2 for me in 2026 fantasy football, and I would not feel comfortable with him as my RB1. Between the risk that Corum brings and the fact that Williams has declined in fantasy football production for three straight seasons, he should be your RB2.

Looking at the FantasyPros expert consensus rankings to reference, they have Williams at RB15, which is in that range, but I would rank him a bit lower. In fantasy football this year, I would definitely rather have Javonte Williams or Cam Skattebo, both who are ranked behind Kyren Williams.
