"At dawn, one of the mobile fire groups of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine detected an aerial target in its sector – an enemy cruise missile. Shooting down a cruise missile with a machine gun is an extremely difficult task, as the chances of successfully hitting such a target are extremely low. However, the border guards' swift reaction, professional training and skill made the impossible possible – the enemy missile was destroyed," the statement said.
The fragments of the downed missile fell outside populated areas. A large crater was formed at the crash site.
