The Union government has denied permission to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to travel to the United States, The Hindu reported on Friday.
Reddy’s office claimed that the Ministry of External Affairs informed the state government that “clearance from political angle is denied”, The Indian Express reported.
The Congress leader, who is in the United Kingdom, will return to Hyderabad on Sunday after the first leg of a 10-day tour with the “Telangana Rising” delegation.
He began the tour on Thursday and was scheduled to travel to Boston after his UK visit to sign agreements with educational institutes.
The state government was informed that permission for the US visit had been denied after the delegation had reached the UK, The Hindu reported.
Reddy said that the objective of his US visit was to bring the world’s leading educational institutions to Telangana and Hyderabad, in line with the National Democratic Alliance government’s National Education Policy.
“I have always believed we should all think beyond politics and elections when it comes to nation building and the future of the youth,” the newspaper quoted him as saying.
