Rolls-Royce has created one of its most personal one-off cars yet, made as a tribute to its owners’ much-loved dog, Bailey.

The American couple behind the car are long-standing Rolls-Royce clients and lifelong animal lovers and wanted their latest car – an all-electric Spectre – to celebrate Bailey, a Labrador/Golden Retriever cross who is very much part of their family.

The result is Spectre Bailey, commissioned through Private Office New York, Rolls-Royce’s invitation-only space for bespoke projects. Rather than simply adding Bailey’s name somewhere discreetly, the company has worked references to him into the paint, coachline, dashboard, door sills and, most strikingly, a detailed wooden portrait between the rear seats.

The exterior uses a two-tone paint finish created specially for the car. The main body is finished in Crystal Fusion over Beautiful Bailey, a colour inspired by the soft fur on Bailey’s ears, while the upper section uses Crystal Fusion, an iridescent finish that changes subtly in different light. There’s also an exact reproduction of Bailey’s paw print hand-painted in Rose Gold on the shoulder coachline, matching the Rose Gold Spirit of Ecstasy.

Inside, Moccasin and Crème Light leather is mixed with Dark Spice and Casden Tan accents, again chosen to echo Bailey’s colouring, while the wood is High Gloss Royal Walnut.

But the centrepiece is the marquetry portrait of Bailey on the Waterfall between the rear seats. It took more than four months to create and is made from more than 180 individual pieces of veneer. Nine different veneers were used to produce 22 natural shades, with each piece selected for its own colour and grain rather than being stained or artificially treated.

The image of Bailey’s tongue alone uses four veneers that Rolls-Royce says it had never used before: Purple Heart, Tulipwood, Louro Faia and Pear. His paw print appears again in marquetry on the passenger side of the dashboard and is also engraved into the surrounds of the Rose Gold treadplates on the door sills.

Bailey’s owners said: “We are lifelong car enthusiasts, yes, but we are also lifelong animal lovers, and our dog Bailey is a cherished member of our family. When we started our Rolls-Royce Spectre commission, we saw the opportunity to create something beautiful which would remind us of him for decades to come. Working with the Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective, we were surprised at every turn with their wonderful ideas – the wood inlay, or the paw prints on the sill – which added so much to the experience. Spectre Bailey is everything we hoped for and more; it’s a joyful tribute to our loyal companion.”

Phil Fabre de la Grange, head of bespoke at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, said: “For Rolls-Royce, one of the great joys of a Bespoke commission is becoming immersed in the client’s world and the unique story behind their vision. This is perfectly captured by Spectre Bailey, a charming commission that reaffirms that inspiration can come from anywhere. Our team was absolutely delighted to collaborate with our long-standing clients to bring this concept to life in a playful yet timeless manner, reflecting the special place Bailey holds in their hearts.”

Mechanically, Spectre Bailey remains a Spectre, Rolls-Royce’s all-electric coupé, with a maximum claimed range of 329 miles and a starting price of around £333,000 before the personalisation process begins. Rolls-Royce hasn’t disclosed the price of the one-off commission.
