Illegal immigrant Eugeniu Neamtu, 59, has been jailed for life at the Old Bailey for a minimum term of 27 years for murdering a man in the UK three years after serving a sentence in Romania for a “strikingly similar” murder.

Eugeniu Neamtu, 59, who went by the name Jimmy, was convicted and jailed in his home country in May 2007 after stabbing his housemate in the chest during a drunken dispute over money.

Following his release in 2023, he moved to Walthamstow, east London, where he delivered a fatal knife wound to the chest of a flatmate on 20 February this year in what prosecutors described as "strikingly similar" circumstances.
