It’s official. A new Professor X is coming. This month’s announcement that Christopher Abbott is taking over the iconic role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe can mean only one thing: after almost thirty years, Patrick Stewart is finally on the way out. What a run it has been.

And so, when Hot Toys announced it’s making a figure of Stewart’s version of the character for Avengers: Doomsday, well, we felt like we should pay our respects.

Here are some images of the latest addition to the Avengers: Doomsday Hot Toys line, which already features Cyclops (also on the way out), Gambit, Doctor Doom, and more.

You can see more photos here, but the likeness on this one is frankly stunning. And yes, this is the prototype, and the final figure will look slightly different when it’s released, but hopefully it won’t be too different. Also, there’s just something really simple and nice about this figure. That it comes with his chair makes for quite the standout display piece, even if the outfit looks almost like pajamas. (Oh, that it comes with a piece of wood flooring is very odd but also amazing.)

Stewart, who is a few years short of 90, obviously had to retire this role eventually, but do we think he’s going to die in this movie? Are all of the previous X-Men going to die? It certainly seems as if, to raise the stakes, Doctor Doom could wipe out their entire universe. And while that’s not 100% guaranteed, it is almost certainly the last time we’ll see Stewart in this role.

X-Men, X2, X-Men: The Last Stand, The Wolverine, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Logan, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and now, Avengers: Doomsday. That makes this figure feel like almost a goodbye to a near 30-year run, and we’re here for it.

Now the bad news. The Professor X Hot Toys retails for $270 and won’t ship until the end of next year. At which point, you’ll know if the character died or not. Do you hold out for December to find out, or just go for it? Let us know.
