BERLIN, August 21. /TASS/. Sahra Wagenknecht, the leader of Germany’s BSW party (formerly known as Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance - Reason and Justice party) has called for ending the escalation of the Ukrainian conflict and warned that, in the event of a major European war, hostilities would take place primarily in Germany.
In an interview with the Funke media group, she noted that British drones are being used to strike Russia. "German technologies and German money are used to attack Moscow. From Russia’s viewpoint, NATO has long been waging a war against it," she said. "If we don’t stop this dangerous escalation, we will soon find ourselves in a situation of a major European war that will be fought primarily on German territory."
"The fact that [German Chancellor] Friedrich Merz wants to turn Germany into Europe’s greatest military power again and, at the same time, recklessly allows for the possibility that we might be drawn into a war with a nuclear power is a clear violation of the obligation to preserve peace, as enshrined in the fundamental law," she stressed, adding that Russia is trying to prevent the deployment of NATO troops and missiles near its borders.
She also spoke against shutting down the Russia House in Berlin some German politicians and political forces have been increasingly calling for. "What have the sanctions imposed until today brought about? Should we dismantle the last remaining bridges of exchanges and mutual understanding?" she said. "It is precisely in times of war and tension that we need more dialogue, not less. Russia has been and remains our largest European neighbor, the country that once made the unification [of the country] possible and with which we must live in peace.".
