In a successful sea rescue operation, the Marine Enforcement squad under the Fisheries department on Saturday (August 22, 2026) safely brought 23 fishermen to shore after their fishing boat was stranded off the Koyilandy coast following engine failure.

The boat, named Izzath, sent out a distress signal around 10:25 a.m. Following instructions from the Fisheries department, a four-member rescue team led by senior civil police officer Manu Thomas immediately responded to the situation and located the stranded crew.

The rescue team successfully towed the vessel and brought all 23 fishermen safely back to the Koyilandy harbour by 4.30 p.m. Officials confirmed that all crew members were found healthy and medically fit.
