Teenage girls 'violently assaulted' in Auckland robbery

Police are investigating after two teenage girls were allegedly violently assaulted by a larger group of girls in a robbery in Auckland's Takapuna last night.

Police say they have identified most of the youths involved, who are aged between 12 and 17.

"The two young victims were hanging out with the group around Takapuna for around an hour on Saturday evening,

"At about 9.30pm the group reportedly turned on the pair," said Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Williams.

"The victims were separated and reportedly violently assaulted, before having their personal items stolen," he said.

Police said the victims were able to identify a number of young people of interest at a bus station.

Williams said follow-up enquiries were being made, with potential charges being considered.

Police were unable to confirm how many girls were involved in the attack.
